ANDREW S. BRUCE

Andrew originally began his optical career in his home country of England, before immigrating into the United States in 1987.
He is a Washington State Licensed Dispensing Optician and Contact Lens Fitting Specialist, holds a Masters in both Ophthalmic Optics and Contact Lens Technology, and has over 25 years of experience in private practice and management.
Andrew loves to teach and is a nationally recognized speaker and industry consultant, and a prolific, internationally published technical writer and CE author, having published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals.
He is an ABO/NCLE advanced level speaker, and approved by the American Optometric Association to present CPC and COPE continuing education.
For three years running, Andrew has been named a Contact Lens Institute Visionary, and he is a Fellow of The Contact Lens Society of America. He has served on several ANSI Z80 sub-committees, the Washington State Dispensing Optician Examination Committee, and the Board of Directors for the Contact Lens Society of America (CLSA), for which he continues to serve as Technical Advisor and Education Consultant for their Eye Witness publication.
In addition, he served as a Contributing Author and Executive Editor for two academic textbooks published by the Contact Lens Society of America, as well as Technical Advisor and Contributing Editor for The Optical Training Institute’s online Contact Lens Dispensing Course. As a National Academy of Opticianry Board Member, he is actively involved promoting high quality education for eye care professionals, and served as a Contributing Author and Editor for the latest update of their Ophthalmic Career Progression Program (OCPP). Andrew also sits on the editorial board for Eyecare Business, and serves as a contributing writer for Review of Optometric Business.
Andrew is an Adjunct Instructor at Portland Community College in Portland, Oregon, for the Optician Assistant Program he developed. Andrew also finds great reward in serving as a volunteer instructor for the State of Oregon's Coffee Creek Women's Correctional Facility's Optical Training Program, as well as serving on the Board of Directors of The Oregon Vision Coalition: a volunteer-based, non-profit group committed to supporting a comprehensive approach to meeting the eye health needs of the state of Oregon.
For many years, he served as a contributing writer for 20/20 magazine, and has written continuing education courses for both The National Academy of Opticianry and The Opticians Association of Washington.
He serves as Technical Education Consultant, Course Developer, and speaker, for VSP Optics and their education portal, myUUniversity.com. In addition, as a Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. sponsored speaker, he serves as their Technical Education Consultant.
Andrew developed an Apprentice Optician Training Program for Kaiser Permanente Vision Essentials, and has served as their optical consultant and academic advisor. Throughout his optical career, he has mentored many apprentice opticians who have gone on to obtain their state license in opticianry.
In 2017, he established ASB Opticianry Education Services with the mission To provide consulting and learning experiences that cultivate independent growth, development, and success.
